Fennigan “Fenn” Spencer has been involved in organized caving for most of his life. Born into the Birmingham Grotto in 1966, with both parents serving as Grotto President at different times, he grew up immersed in the caving community and became increasingly active as an adult in the early 2000s.

A member of several Southeastern grottos—including Birmingham, Chattanooga, Sewanee, and Louisville—Fenn has held numerous leadership and service roles, such as Birmingham Grotto President, Chattanooga Grotto Co-Vice Chair, founder and chair of the NSS Bat Ball, campground manager for the 2019 NSS Convention, and a founding participant in the preservation of Manitou Cave.

Deeply engaged in conservation, event support, and vertical caving education across the TAG region, Fenn has led cleanups, promoted ethical caving practices, and mentored countless cavers in rope work and safety. His long-standing contributions continue to strengthen the caving community through leadership, stewardship, and mentorship.
